(PETERBOROUGH, ON) Dean Del Mastro, Member of Parliament for Peterborough, has provided a report to Air Canada detailing the business potential for scheduled regional passenger flights from the Peterborough Municipal Airport.
“The City of Peterborough, along with the senior levels of government, have committed $29 million to improve the airport infrastructure in Peterborough”, says MP Del Mastro.
“The improved and expanded airport will accommodate up to the Boeing 737 and Airbus 320 class aircraft, and there is significant potential for Air Canada to reach a new customer base through the proposed regional service”.
Air Canada passenger service from Peterborough would appeal to the more than 600,000 regional passengers that originate from our service area each year, the bulk of which access airline transportation at Toronto’s Pearson International.
The study identifies two key opportunities for passenger demand. The first is a connection service which would allow area outbound and returning passengers to avoid traffic when traveling anywhere in the world allowing bags to be checked in Peterborough. The second would be the establishment of scheduled regional flights to Ottawa and Montreal, allowing hassle and traffic free access to residents from Durham, Kawartha Lakes and Northumberland, as well as Peterborough.
“Air Canada is delighted to receive this information from MP Dean Del Mastro. He has made a strong case for passenger flights out of Peterborough, and we look forward to thoroughly reviewing the proposal”, said Joe Galimberti, Director of Government and Community Relations for Air Canada. “Air Canada has a long standing relationship serving customers throughout the Greater Peterborough region at our various departure points, and we look forward to maintaining and strengthening that relationship”.
MP Del Mastro has provided this case to Air Canada, as they are the largest passenger airline in Canada.
However, all competing regional providers will be sent a copy of the report for their review.
