(TUESDAY, MARCH 23, 2009 – PETERBOROUGH, ON) Dean Del Mastro, Member of Parliament for Peterborough Riding was encouraged to hear that Peterborough City Council has unanimously passed a motion to accept the business case presented by LPS Aviation Inc. with regard to infrastructure development at the Peterborough Municipal Airport.
“On behalf of the constituents of the Peterborough Riding, I would like to congratulate City Council for unanimously supporting the airport upgrade.” stated MP Del Mastro. “This can only mean good things for our Riding – more jobs, a better economy and a more satisfying quality of life.”
The business case, compiled and presented to Council by LPS Aviation Inc. calls for $21.3 million to be spent to extend the runway, extend a portion of the taxiway and increase the size of the apron.
“I have read the report and I concur with the findings.” stated MP Del Mastro. “The LPS Aviation Report closely mirrors my findings from 2007 and as such I feel strongly that it is the right plan to move the economy of our region forward. This can be done now…in co-ordination with other substantial infrastructure upgrades that are already underway including the re-establishment of passenger rail, the extension of Hwy 407 and the refurbishment of the Trent Severn Waterway. I am pleased that Peterborough City Council is moving forward with this plan and I will fully support it at the Federal level.”
