The Government of Canada Supports Ontario OUT OF DOORS Magazine

(PETERBOROUGH, ON - April 20, 2009)  On behalf of the Honourable James Moore, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages, Dean Del Mastro, Member of Parliament (Peterborough), today announced funding to support the creation of Canadian editorial content in a magazine for Canadian fans of hunting, fishing, and outdoor experiences: Ontario OUT OF DOORS.
 
“Our Government is proud to help magazines that speak to Canadians’ interests and realities,” said Minister Moore. “Ontario OUT OF DOORS is a useful and interesting source of information for Canadians who practise hunting and fishing, two of our country’s great outdoor activities.”
 
“Ontario OUT OF DOORS is one of the province’s most read outdoor magazines and features many of the best writers on the subject in the country,” said MP Del Mastro. “I am proud to make this announcement, because I know this support will greatly assist the Ontario Federation of Anglers and Hunters with their new venture as publishers of Ontario OUT OF DOORS.”
 
“We are grateful to the Government of Canada for its financial contribution toward our efforts to promote and celebrate the Canadian traditions of fishing and hunting,” said Mike Reader, Publisher of Ontario OUT OF DOORS and Executive Director of the Ontario Federation of Anglers and Hunters, which owns the magazine. “We take great pride in producing an informative and entertaining magazine that serves a Canadian market, and are appreciative of the government’s ongoing support of Canadian publications, Canadian content, and the work of outstanding Canadian writers.”
 
The Government of Canada has provided funding of $44,285 under the Support for Editorial Content component of the Canada Magazine Fund. The Government recently announced that it would maintain its support for Canadian magazines through the creation of the Canada Periodical Fund, a modern, streamlined program that will replace the Canada Magazine Fund and the Publications Assistance Program. This new fund, which will be launched in 2010–2011, will help magazines such as Ontario OUT OF DOORS reflect Canadian interests for years to come.
