April 27, 2009

(Monday, April 27, 2009 - PETERBOROUGH, ON) Dean Del Mastro, Member of Parliament for Peterborough Riding is pleased - but not surprised - to hear that Peterborough is ranked 9th in the recently released "MoneySense - Canada's Best Places to Live" Report.

"I work very hard promoting our community both within Canada and internationally. This strong third party endorsement supports me in these efforts and is truly something to celebrate." stated MP Del Mastro. "Our quality of life is truly enhanced by our economic resilience, our social responsibility and our natural beauty - the Electric City continues to shine bright and continues to provide our residents with an outstanding place to work and live."

The MoneySense - Canada's Best Places to Live Report is the publication's fourth annual ranking of the nations best places to live - measuring every important aspect of every community in Canada. The raking takes into account the weather, jobs, home prices, crime, access to healthcare and many other categories as well.  In total, MoneySense looked at 24 different indicators and rewarded points for each one, with 105 being the maximum number of points a community could get. The full report, which can be viewed at www.moneysense.ca, ranked a total of 154 communities across Canada.  Peterborough's 9th place ranking is a considerable improvement over rankings of the past -in 2007 and in 2006.

"Peterborough can be proud of what it has to offer its residents." stated MP Del Mastro. "With world-class healthcare facilities and post-secondary institutions in our Riding, as well as a beautiful natural environment and a strong economic foundation, we can consider ourselves very fortunate to be able to call one of the "Top Ten" places in Canada home."
