MP DEAN DEL MASTRO RELEASES LITTLE LAKE RE-DEVELOPMENT BALLOT
May 21, 2009

(Thursday, May 21, 2009 - PETERBOROUGH, ON)  Dean Del Mastro, Member of Parliament for Peterborough today released his Little Lake Re-Development Ballot at a media conference held at  Canada Post in Peterborough.

“We are looking for the opinion of the constituents on this issue.” stated MP Del Mastro.  “The ballot will be mailed to every eligible voter in the Peterborough Riding.  It will contain an information piece and a mail-in ballot.  I am asking everyone to carefully read the information piece, consider its merit in building the future of the Peterborough area and then vote.  This is your chance to have a say in building the future of our community - don’t waste this opportunity.”

The ballot describes MP Del Mastro’s vision for a re-development of land between Lock 20 and    Johnston Park along Little Lake in Peterborough.  Currently the land is being used as the headquarters for the administration of the Trent Severn Waterway, a works yard that services the TSW and a municipal snow dump in the winter months.  One proposal would see the land re-developed into a year round tourism destination including the potential for a boutique hotel and conference centre, waterfront promenade, new head office for the Trent Severn Waterway, condominiums, waterpark, IMAX Theatre and possible satellite location for the Canadian Canoe Museum.

Within the next 3 to 5 days, each eligible voter will receive their information package in the mail and MP Del Mastro is strongly encouraging everyone to vote and then mail in the ballot. (no postage is required).  The deadline for returning the ballots is set for June 12, 2009 with no ballots being accepted for tabulation after June 19, 2009.  All ballots being mailed are individually addressed and will be verified for authenticity upon their return.  Results will then be tabulated and if 60% of the responses are in favour of the plan, Del Mastro will continue with a public consultation process to discuss the future of the project and open up a process for other bidders to come forward with proposals for the subject property.

A final report on the results is tentatively scheduled to be completed by August 1, 2009.

For more information, constituents are invited to call the office at (705) 745-2108.
