MP DEAN DEL MASTRO AND MPP JEFF LEAL ANNOUNCE FUNDING FOR RECREATIONAL UPGRADES IN THE PETERBOROUGH RIDING

(Thursday, July 2, 2009 - PETERBOROUGH, ON) Dean Del Mastro, MP and Jeff Leal, MPP today announced that 13 projects in the Peterborough Riding will benefit from joint federal and provincial funding to improve community recreational infrastructure under the Recreational Infrastructure Canada program in Ontario (RInC Ontario) and Recreation Ontario (Ontario REC).
These projects will provide stimulus to the local economy through investments that will spur construction activity related to recreational infrastructure. Improving recreational facilities and services will also encourage higher levels of participation in physical activity and community building.
"We are pleased to work with our provincial partners to deliver funding that will create jobs and make a difference in the lives of throughout the Peterborough Riding." stated Dean Del Mastro, Member of Parliament. "Investing in recreational infrastructure will provide key social, health and economic benefits to our residents for years to come."

"Recreational facilities play a key role in providing us with an environment conducive to participating in organized sports or recreational activities. Governments recognize these benefits and are providing the funding to support our local sport and recreational infrastructure."
The 13 projects approved for the Peterborough Riding are;
- Mapleridge Seniors Centre - new construction with a total project cost of $1.72 million.
- Johnston Forest Trail - new construction of nature trails with a total project cost of $60,000.
- Havelock-Belmont-Methuen Community Centre - upgrades with a total project cost of $520,000.
- Cordova Mines Multi-Use Recreation Facility - upgrades with a total project cost of $39,600.
- Kinsmen Arena - City of Peterborough - replacement of roof with a total project cost of $600,000.
- Trans-Canada Trail Improvement - City of Peterborough - improvements with a total project cost of $280,000.
- Bonnerworth Park - City of Peterborough - new construction of a field building with a total project cost of $270,000.
- Outdoor Basketball Courts - City of Peterborough - new construction with a total project cost of $210,000.
- King Edward Splash Pad - City of Peterborough - new construction with a total project cost of $242,100.
- Park Bleachers and Backstops - City of Peterborough - renovations with a total project cost of $160,800.
- Lakefield-Smith Community Centre - renovations with a total project cost of $644,379.
- Otonabee Region Conservation Authority - new construction at Warsaw Caves with a total project cost of $448,149.
- Peterborough Lawn Bowling Club - new construction with a total project cost of $1.56 million.
These projects are just a few of the 758 projects announced on June 26th by Minister of State (Science and Technology) Gary Goodyear, on behalf of the Honourable Tony Clement, Minister of Industry, and Ontario Minister of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs Leona Dombrowsky, on behalf of George Smitherman, Ontario Minister of Energy and Infrastructure, worth a total joint federal and provincial investment of more than $380 Million.
Approved projects were selected on the basis of merit and construction readiness and a list of approved projects will be available on July 6, 2009, at www.rinc-on.ca.
