Government of Canada invests in Peterborough to stimulate local economy
September 01, 2009

PETERBOROUGH, ON
- Dean Del Mastro, Member of Parliament for Peterborough, today announced that the Peterborough Community Counselling and Resource Centre will be receiving funding in the amount of $150,000.00 towards their goal to relocate four satellite locations within one facility.  This project has the potential to move forward thanks to the investment realized under the Community Adjustment Fund (CAF) in Southern Ontario.

“I am pleased to be able to announce this funding today.” stated MP Del Mastro.  “This project is well worth our support – both nationally and locally.  On the federal level, this project will help to provide jobs to stimulate the economy.  On a local level, the Community Counselling and Resource Centre is a great
community partner in providing support, resources and assistance to all members of our communities. Today, I am pleased to offer concrete financial support to help the Centre reach its goals.  With that said, they will always have my personal support and the support of my Office for their programs, re-
sources and clients.”

"The Community Counselling and Resource Centre (CCRC) welcomes this generous support from the federal Community Adjustment Fund.” stated Don C. Cumming, President, Board of Directors, CCRC. It has been a long term goal of CCRC to locate its services in a central, downtown location. This project
will enhance the economic health of the Peterborough community through job creation in the renovation stage of the project and sustainable job creation by developing a space that will allow for employment growth in CCRC.  The space will include office space, a resource centre and meeting rooms where
people will access information and training to enhance their financial, housing and personal well-being. This funding is part of a number of funding arrangements we are negotiating with public and private partners.  We look forward to announcing the details of our plans in the coming weeks once all funding
sources have responded, and we can confirm if we can proceed with this project."

This project was part of the up to $102 million investment made through the Community Adjustment Fund for 2009-2010, announced on August 27th  by the Honourable Gary Goodyear, newly appointed Minister of State for the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario (FedDev
Ontario). It is the government's intention to support a total of 90 projects in communities across Southern Ontario that are struggling with the effects of the global economic downturn.

Approved projects must meet the terms and conditions set out in their funding agreements. A complete list of approved projects in Southern Ontario will be made available online at www.ic.gc.ca/caf on September 10, 2009.

Applications for 2010-2011 CAF project funds will be accepted by FedDev Ontario later this year. A public announcement will be made once details are finalized.

CAF is just one in a series of initiatives introduced in the Government of Canada’s Economic Action Plan designed to address the short-term effects of the economic decline on communities across Canada, while preparing our communities for long-term growth. For more information on Canada’s
