(FRIDAY, JUNE 5, 2009 - PETERBOROUGH, ON) Residents of the Peterborough Riding will benefit from federal and provincial infrastructure funding to build, upgrade and rehabilitate a total of eight infrastructure projects in Peterborough City and County. The announcement was made today in downtown Peterborough by Dean Del Mastro, MP and Jeff Leal, MPP for Peterborough Riding. These eight projects are just a few of the examples of both governments’ commitment to stimulating the Ontario economy through the creation of jobs in our communities.
“Under the leadership of Prime Minister Stephen Harper, our Government is getting shovels in the ground and flowing money faster to stimulate the economy and create jobs for Ontarians,” said Dean Del Mastro, Member of Parliament for Peterborough Riding. “Thanks to the strong relationship between our two governments, we can work together to help Ontario communities and the economy thrive immediately and in the future.”

The governments of Canada and Ontario will each invest up to $6.6 million in the eight projects. The City of Peterborough and the County of Peterborough will contribute the balance of the total eligible project costs of up to $19.8 million.
The eight projects approved for the Peterborough Riding are;
- Township of Douro-Dummer, reconditioning of the Warsaw Community Centre with a total project cost of $150,000.00.
- Township of Smith-Ennismore-Lakefield, reconstruction of Charles Street with a total project cost of $501,975.00.
- Township of Otonabee-South Monaghan, replacement of Taylor’s Bridge with a total project cost of $1,099,998.00.
- Township of Douro-Dummer, addition to the Municipal Building with a total project cost of $1,100,000.00.
- Township of Asphodel-Norwood, construction of a new Public Works Facility with a total project cost of $1,730,000.00.
- Township of Smith-Ennismore-Lakefield, reconstruction of County Road 20 with a total project cost of $2,175,885.00.
- Township of Asphodel-Norwood, reconstruction of King Street with a total project cost of $3,435,781.00.
- City of Peterborough, restoration of Market Hall with a total project cost of $9,686,000.00.
