Canada and Ontario fund Peterborough Airport Project, Federal and Provincial Government Continue to Invest in Peterborough Area
March 25, 2011

(Peterborough, ON) - The Government of Canada and the Government of Ontario have announced further funding through the Infrastructure Stimulus Fund to the Peterborough Municipal Airport.

$333,332 jointly from both Canada and the Province will enable the Peterborough Airport to construct an Airport Maintenance Building.  The building would house essential equipment for maintaining the airport runways, taxiways and aprons as well as the surrounding grounds.

The Airport Maintenance Building would house essential equipment for maintaining the Airport runways, taxiways and aprons as well as the surrounding grounds.  Equipment such as plow trucks, sanders, dump trucks and loaders will be housed and maintained within this building.  Allowing vehicles to be housed indoors helps reduce the running time, which in turn reduces greenhouse gas emissions.

“I am very pleased to be able to help announce this funding for the Airport Maintenance Building,” stated Dean Del Mastro, Member of Parliament for Peterborough.   “This project will be key to the support our new and improved Peterborough Municipal Airport.  I am confident that our new Airport – with the addition of this key project will help to strengthen our economy and, in turn, the quality of life for all our residents.”

“I am very pleased that both levels of government were able to come together again to provide funding to the Peterborough Airport,” stated Jeff Leal, Member of Provincial Parliament for Peterborough.  “This investment will ensure that the Airport runs smoothly and is safe for all those who use the service.”

“We are delighted by this announcement,” said Peterborough Mayor Daryl Bennett.  “The Airport Maintenance Building will serve an important role in maintaining runway and property conditions, and is another welcome addition to the ongoing transformation of the Peterborough Airport."

“I am excited to see the Federal and Provincial Governments stay on board with the Airport Expansion project and provide this funding,” said Peterborough County Warden J. Murray Jones.  “We are thankful that they have kept this significant infrastructure project on their priority list, as I believe it is an important next step in expanding our area business capabilities and services into the future.”
